The most remarkable fact about this site is the amount of restoration done. The property was owned by one family for many years, passed down to the next generations. It is still a non-profit historical site receiving no government funds. Several of the buildings in these photos were entirely rebuilt. The original blueprints were found in France. Fort Ticonderoga is well worth a visit. Standing on the top wall, getting a view of the importance of the water ways being defended leaves one with a true thrill and pride knowing that you are standing where a great deal of America started.

The lower level in the building above housed the enlisted soldiers. Below are pictures of their bunks. Makes me appreciate the modern barracks just a bit more.
The living conditions appear to be livable. Now put yourself back; living conditions were actually very close throughout the fort. No working bathrooms as we know the comforts. The smells must not have been very pleasant. The winters in this area can be very very cold. Without knowing it, the soldiers and civilians of the time were definitely a strong stock of people.
